‘NIGHT OF THE ANGELS’ – December 2021

We did it!  Carols old and new, thoughtful and joyful; fire-light, candle-light, angels, and bells! …and  ‘The Little Angels!’  😉 flying in from Staveley Primary School made the keenly anticipated Night of the Angels Christmas concert a rip-roaring success.  This was the first concert in almost two years that we have been able to do.  It was wonderful!  The audience was joyously appreciative, and the hall was full.  On stage we had the largest choir of children from Staveley Primary School to date, not just singing, but playing various instruments, including handbells and drums to great effect.  In the body of the hall, Staveley Choral, although necessarily a little below full complement, sang as well as we have ever heard them, with feeling, and read the interspersed readings likewise, with the school children setting the standard high, reciting their items from memory.  The extra anti-Covid measures that we took and asked all comers to participate in, did not dampen the occasion, and we thank everyone for being so willing help keep us all safe and healthy.  It was effective.   The habitual raffle had particularly fine prizes, and we announced the three winners of the concert themed quiz, which had a the best ever response – thank you so much! We look forward to bringing you more concerts in the coming year, just as full of interest, beauty, fun ,and fine singing.  See you soon!

‘IDEAS SPRING FORTH’ – March 26th

We did it! Again! After two years in the waiting the long awaited concert sprang forth! Ian Pattinson stepped in at the very last moment for David Battersby who, alas, succumbed to the dreaded Covid lurgy on the very morning.  We missed him of course, but Ian was wonderful, leaping from piano stool to organ stool as best suited each piece, and choir sang with verve, responding marvellously to unaccustomed organ colours. Readings were sensitively read, and programme notes appreciated.  Very fine interval refreshments were enjoyed at half-time, a raffle drawn, and the three quiz winners announced: 1st prize: M.Walker. 2nd prize: C.Traynier. 3rd prize: D.Lewis.  Well done, everyone!  And we’re off! … rehearsals have begun for our next concert in June. See you there!
